Question for our Administrators?

Why was it that not a single D/C or even the Chief attended the retirement luncheon for a 22+year veteran of our agency?

Forbes: 15 Ways To Identify Bad Leaders
<<Continue Reading>>

#6 It’s all about them: If a leader doesn’t understand the concept of “service above self” they will not engender the trust, confidence, and loyalty of those they lead. Any leader is only as good as his or her team’s desire to be led by them. An over abundance of ego, pride, and arrogance are not positive leadership traits. Real leaders take the blame and give the credit – not the other way around. Long story short; if a leader receives a vote of non-confidence from their subordinates…game over.

Brothers and Sisters,

As the 2013 Legislature wraps up today I want to report to you that lobbying on behalf of FOPNM was an interesting experience.  It was refreshing to see that many individual legislators seek out the FOP's opinion on law enforcement issues.  Sadly, Senate Bill (SB) 27 made it through both chambers with only  a few minor changes.  While these minor changes are positive for public safety, majority of our concerns were not addressed.  It now sits on  Governor Martinez's desk.

During our FOP NM trip to Washington DC, I was honored to represent all of you as SFPOA President.  Both Senators Tom Udall and Martin Henrich send thier best wishes to each of you.  Witnessing the inner-workings of the nations capital was an eye opener to say the least.

Here at home, we are now less than a year away from the municipal election in which the mayor and four councilors will be elected.  In the last election, 3 of the 4 council candidates endorsed by the POA were elected.  With issues like annexation, budget woes, and the ever  rising crime rate, it is of the utmost importance that the POA take up an active role in this election cycle.

Stay strong and be safe!!!

Adam

Brothers and Sisters

The Union is quickly coming to a cross roads. Much of the leadership that has guided the membership over the past five years is either, promoting, retiring or moving on to other things. Brothers and Sisters you need to get involved. I can’t remember the last time the entire executive board changed over in such a short period of time. The next three months are going to be very important for the union. I know many of you don’t want to get involved because of family obligations or just no interest, but the men and women that came before you were mothers and fathers and they found the time to fight for better wages and benefits. Who’s going to be there for our members when after just doing their job they end up in the hot seat? Those of you who have been in the hot seat know what I’m talking about. Those who haven’t are lucky but good Officers can end up in tough situations and who’s going to be there to help you out when it happens? With the exception of training being a Union Board Member has no perks, you donate your time and effort. You take calls when you’re trying to sleep; you try and fix problems on your days off. You put yourself out there on a limb for another Officer when no one else will. This is honorable work that needs to be done by honorable men and women. Who is going to take up the mantle, who‘s going to fight the good fight? The Santa Fe Police Officers Associations is looking for a few good men and women

Be vigilant, be safe and get home!
